The Indian stock market experienced a notable decline today, with the benchmark indices pulling back from recent highs. The **Sensex** fell by **390 points**, closing at **85,070 points**, a decrease of **0.43%**. Similarly, the **Nifty** slipped below the **26,200** mark, losing **68 points** or **0.28%**, and trading at **26,175** at the latest update. This downturn was primarily driven by profit booking among investors and rising geopolitical tensions.

Profit-taking activities were particularly evident in heavyweight stocks, with **Reliance Industries** leading the decline. Shares of Reliance plunged by **3.32%**, closing at **Rs. 1,525**, marking its largest single-day drop in five months. The stock reached an intraday low of **Rs. 1,518**, distancing itself from its recent **52-week high** of **Rs. 1,611**, which was achieved just a day prior. The market value of Reliance, exceeding **Rs. 20 lakh crore**, amplified the negative pressure across the market.

Despite the setbacks in major sectors, the banking sector provided some support. The **Bank Nifty** index managed to recover nearly **1%** during intraday trading, with **ICICI Bank** standing out as a significant gainer. The bank’s shares surged by **2.32%** to **Rs. 1,403**, marking its highest single-day gain in five months. ICICI Bank rebounded sharply from a low of **Rs. 1,367**. In contrast, **HDFC Bank** hit a three-month low amid concerns regarding slower deposit growth, indicating a need for stronger inflows to support future loan growth.

Sector Performance and Market Sentiments

The stock market’s bearish trend was mirrored by declines in other heavyweight stocks such as **Trent**, the retail arm of the **Tata Group**. Despite reporting a robust **17%** increase in standalone revenue for the third quarter, Trent’s shares fell by **7.07%** to **Rs. 4,116**. The company expanded its footprint with the addition of **17 new Westside stores** and **48 Zudio outlets**, bringing its total to **278** and **854**, respectively.

On the other hand, the metal sector showed strength, with the **Nifty Metal index** rising by **1%**. **Hindalco Industries** led the charge, climbing **3.31%** to reach a new **52-week high** of **Rs. 962.80**. Other notable gains were seen in **Hindustan Copper**, which increased by **3.42%**, while **Hindustan Zinc** and **Vedanta** also contributed positively.

The information technology sector provided additional support, with the **BSE IT index** gaining **0.3%**. Stocks such as **Mindteck** surged by **6.86%**, while **Mphasis**, **Coforge**, and **Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)** also traded higher.

Market Outlook and Future Considerations

Despite some areas of strength, the broader market exhibited mixed trends. The **BSE Midcap index** traded lower, while the **Smallcap index** faced selling pressure. Approximately **1,475 shares** advanced compared to **2,104 declining stocks** on the National Stock Exchange at the time of reporting.

Analysts indicate that the market may remain range-bound in the near term, as investors closely monitor geopolitical developments and upcoming earnings reports. The support level for Nifty is projected around **26,100-26,130**, with resistance expected at **26,370-26,400**.

In summary, while some sectors like banking and metals demonstrated resilience, the overall market sentiment remains cautious. Investors are advised to adopt a cautious approach as they navigate through the current climate of uncertainty.
