Recent data reveal a marked decline in short interest for the Fidelity Municipal Bond Opportunities ETF (NASDAQ: FMUB). As of December 31, 2023, short interest had fallen to 3,745 shares, a remarkable decrease of 68.8% from the 12,006 shares reported on December 15, 2023. This figure represents approximately 0.1% of the ETF’s total shares, indicating a significantly low level of bearish sentiment among investors. Based on an average daily trading volume of 18,118 shares, the short-interest ratio stands at 0.2 days, suggesting that short sellers are quickly covering their positions.

In the context of this substantial shift, several institutional investors and hedge funds have adjusted their holdings in the ETF. During the third quarter of 2023, CWM LLC increased its stake in the Fidelity Municipal Bond Opportunities ETF by 18.3%, acquiring an additional 152,100 shares to bring its total ownership to 983,758 shares valued at around $50.03 million. Additionally, Jane Street Group LLC entered the market with a stake worth about $1.09 million during the second quarter, while Advisory Services Network LLC‘s new investment in the third quarter was approximately $1.12 million.
