The author of the acclaimed A Song of Ice and Fire series discussed various topics, including updates on his long-awaited novel The Winds of Winter, differences between the books and the television series’ endings, and his relationship with House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal.

In response to the ongoing anticipation for The Winds of Winter, Martin clarified that, should he pass away before its completion, there is no plan for another author to take over. He expressed a strong desire to finish the book himself, stating, “I would hate that. It would feel like a total failure to me. I want to finish.” Martin has faced several creative challenges while working on this installment, including his own mood fluctuations and distractions from other projects, which he acknowledged affect his writing pace.

Furthermore, the author hinted that characters Tyrion Lannister and Sansa Stark might meet different fates in the books compared to their portrayals in the television series. He noted, “I was going to kill more people… They made it more of a happy ending.
