Community Marches to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK Day

Approximately 100 people participated in a march through downtown Hickory, North Carolina, on January 15, 2024, to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event, organized by the Hickory NAACP, involved a 1.25-mile walk from Lenoir-Rhyne University to the Ridgeview Recreation Center, where community members gathered to reflect on King’s legacy.

As they approached their final destination, members of the Lenoir-Rhyne A Cappella Choir performed “We Shall Overcome,” a song that has become synonymous with the Civil Rights Movement.
