Barbershop Series Welcomes Star-Studded Cast for New Adaptation
Prime Video has unveiled an exciting cast for its upcoming adaptation of the beloved *Barbershop* film franchise. The series promises a mix of established comedic talent, ensuring a vibrant and engaging atmosphere in the iconic setting of Calvin’s barbershop.
Among the eight new guest stars joining the cast, audiences can expect to see familiar faces from popular shows. Notable additions include *Abbott Elementary* star Zack Fox as Alderman Warren and former *Saturday Night Live* cast member Ego Nwodim portraying Shelly-Ann. Fellow comedian Devon Walker, a writer from SNL, will appear as Southside Swole, while Ziwe, known for her talk show presence, takes on the role of Abbi.
The character roster continues to impress with appearances from Tituss Burgess of *Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt* fame, playing Juan Grillz, and Diallo Riddle from *South Side*, who will portray Pastor Devante. Additionally, comedian CP will feature as Marvin, and Belmont Cameli will take on the role of Shep.
Steering the series is Jermaine Fowler, who plays the lead character, Travis “Trav” Porter. Trav seeks to establish his own identity while honoring the legacy of his grandfather, a legendary barber at the historic Calvin’s barbershop located in Chicago.
Reviving the Iconic Barbershop Experience
Despite the arrival of new barbers, Calvin’s remains a vibrant hub of community interaction. According to the official logline, “While the barbers are new, the shop remains just as lively, the customers just as argumentative, and the fades are still the dopest in the city — because at Calvin’s, the community comes together for way more than just a haircut.”
Alongside Fowler, the main cast includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., and E.J. Bonilla, who will collectively bring a fresh take to the beloved franchise.
Behind the scenes, Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original *Barbershop* film, serves as the writer and executive producer of this new adaptation. His involvement adds a layer of authenticity and continuity to the project, promising a series that honors its roots while appealing to a new generation.
The *Barbershop* series is poised to capture the essence of community, humor, and the daily life that unfolds within the walls of a barbershop. With its impressive cast and dedicated team, it aims to deliver a narrative that resonates with long-time fans and newcomers alike.
