Optimist Fund Highlights Carvana’s Strong Financial Growth
Investment management firm Optimist Fund emphasized the strong financial trajectory of Carvana Co. (NYSE: CVNA) in its fourth-quarter 2025 investor letter. The document, which outlines the fund’s strategic outlook and performance, noted that despite an 8.5% decline in Q4, the fund maintains confidence in achieving mid-teen capital growth over the long term.
Carvana, a US-based used car retailer, operates an innovative e-commerce platform. As of February 26, 2026, shares of Carvana closed at $353.90 each. Over the preceding month, the company experienced a share price decline of 16.01%, but impressively, its stock gained 44.53% over the last 52 weeks. Carvana currently holds a market capitalization of approximately $73.958 billion.
In the letter, Optimist Fund highlighted Carvana’s impressive third-quarter results, where the company sold 155,941 retail cars, representing a year-on-year increase of around 44%. Total revenue for that quarter reached approximately $5.65 billion, a remarkable increase of about 55% compared to the previous year.
The company also generated an adjusted EBITDA of around $637 million, reflecting a 50% rise, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of approximately 11.3%. These figures are well above the typical profitability levels seen in the industry, solidifying Carvana’s status as a top holding for the Optimist Fund.
Despite this strong performance, Carvana is not among the 30 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. At the end of the fourth quarter, records indicate that 100 hedge fund portfolios included Carvana, a decrease from 109 in the third quarter. The fund acknowledged the investment risks associated with Carvana, suggesting that while the company shows potential, other sectors, particularly in artificial intelligence, may offer greater short-term returns.
The fourth-quarter results for Carvana reflect a revenue of $5.603 billion, marking a significant increase of 58% from Q4 2024. While Optimist Fund expressed confidence in Carvana’s long-term potential, it also pointed out that certain AI stocks might present higher upside opportunities in a more condensed timeframe.
