Remembering Arturo O. Valencia: A Life of Family and Dedication

Arturo O. Valencia, affectionately known as “Art,” passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. His life, marked by resilience and unwavering devotion to his loved ones, leaves a lasting legacy. Art was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, father-in-law, and friend, deeply admired by all who knew him.

A Life Dedicated to Family and Community

Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, Art exemplified hard work and commitment. He married his beloved wife, Nellie Valencia, with whom he shared over 73 years of partnership and love. Together, they raised four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo. Art’s legacy continues through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.

Art’s family roots extended beyond his immediate household. He was predeceased by his sister, Lola Gonzalez, and brothers Alex, Raymond, and John, but is survived by his siblings, Tito and Choco. His life reflected the importance of family bonds, evident in the many memories shared during family camping trips at Glen Ivy.

A Passion for Work and Leisure

Growing up in Torrance, Art became part of a close-knit community, where he attended Torrance High School. His career demonstrated remarkable skill and dedication. Art worked for 20 years at Soule’ Steel in Carson before becoming a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas. His precision and work ethic earned him respect and numerous accolades throughout his career.

Outside of his professional life, Art pursued various passions. He was an avid bowler, competing for over 40 years at local bowling alleys such as the Bowl-O-Drome and Gardena Bowl. In the 1960s, he made his mark in a men’s softball league at Torrance Park. Additionally, Art was a skilled pool player, known for winning tournaments and establishing himself as one of the best in Torrance.

Art was also a voracious reader, maintaining a lifelong subscription to the Daily Breeze. He took pride in the fact that his sons once delivered that very paper, illustrating the connection between his family and the community.

Although Art is no longer with us, his memory lives on through the stories shared, the lessons imparted, and the love he gave so freely. His craftsmanship is reflected in the home he meticulously restored and maintained, each project a testament to his dedication and care.

Services to honor Art’s life will be held on October 27, 2025, at 4 PM at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate a life well-lived.
