Jennifer Lawrence Calls Working with Robert Pattinson ‘Total Revenge’
In a surprising twist of fate, Jennifer Lawrence has finally shared the screen with Robert Pattinson in the upcoming film Die My Love, a collaboration that she humorously dubbed “total revenge” for her earlier rejection from the Twilight franchise. During an appearance on The Rewatchables podcast, Lawrence recounted how she was turned down “immediately” for the role of Bella Swan, leaving her without even a callback.
From Missed Opportunities to Major Collaborations
Lawrence’s journey since that audition has been nothing short of remarkable. Now, 15 years later, she finds herself starring alongside Pattinson in Mubi’s latest offering, marking director Lynne Ramsay’s first feature film since 2017’s acclaimed You Were Never Really Here. At the New York premiere of Die My Love, Lawrence spoke with Variety about the significance of this moment, joking, “Yeah, it’s the total revenge that I’ve wanted.”
Die My Love presents a gripping psychodrama, with Lawrence portraying a writer whose mental stability deteriorates amidst the strains of marriage and motherhood. In stark contrast to their on-screen dynamic—where they exchange sharp insults—Lawrence described her working relationship with Pattinson as refreshingly quiet. “My favorite part of working with him was probably that we could be in the same room, but not talk for a really long time,” she noted, highlighting her appreciation for such camaraderie.
A Shared Appreciation for Craft
Pattinson expressed his admiration for Lawrence, recalling the first film he saw her in, Winter’s Bone, a 2010 drama that showcased her talent as a young woman struggling to find her father in the Ozarks. “I just remember she was like the thing on the scene,” he reflected. “When that movie came out, it was like everyone went to see, ‘Okay, who is this girl?’” He emphasized the immediate impact she had on audiences, and the elemental power of her performance.
That breakthrough role in Winter’s Bone earned Lawrence her first Academy Award nomination, propelling her to stardom. Following her audition for Twilight, she landed the iconic role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, another young adult blockbuster that defined the early 2010s.
Die My Love is set to hit theaters on November 7, 2023, offering audiences a chance to see how the two stars navigate their long-awaited collaboration. As Lawrence quipped, the film represents not just a new chapter in their careers but also a playful nod to what might have been.
