What to Expect from Delivery Services on Veterans Day 2024
As the holiday season approaches, many are preparing for the busiest period of mail delivery and shipping. On November 11, 2024, the United States will observe Veterans Day, a federal holiday honoring military veterans. Communities nationwide will hold events, parades, and ceremonies to recognize the sacrifices made by those who have served. While some individuals may enjoy a day off from work or school, many are eager to understand how this holiday will affect mail delivery and shipping services.
USPS Holiday Schedule
All United States Postal Service (USPS) locations will remain closed on Veterans Day in observance of the federal holiday. Despite the closures, the USPS will deliver Priority Express Mail on this day. Regular mail services and retail operations are set to resume on November 12, 2024.
Postmaster General and CEO David Steiner emphasized the significance of this day, stating, “On this important day, we honor the military veterans who have served our nation. The Postal Service is proud to be one of the largest civilian employers of America’s veterans. Their dedication, discipline, and commitment to service enrich our organization and strengthen our connection to the communities we serve.”
While Post Offices will not be open for regular business, customers will still have access to approximately 2,600 self-service kiosks located in various Post Office lobbies across the country. These kiosks offer around-the-clock access to mail services, and the USPS is actively working to enhance their retail locations with this feature.
FedEx and UPS Operations
In contrast to USPS, both FedEx and UPS will maintain operations on Veterans Day, albeit with some modifications. FedEx will provide pickup and delivery services and keep its FedEx Office locations open for business. Customers can check the company’s holiday hours through their official schedule.
UPS will also offer delivery and pickup services on Veterans Day, with store locations operating as usual. However, customers should note that UPS Ground Saver and UPS Mail Innovations deliveries will experience an additional business day in transit due to the holiday.
With the holiday season fast approaching, understanding the status of delivery services on Veterans Day is crucial for those looking to send or receive mail during this time. Knowing which services are available ensures that both senders and recipients can plan accordingly, allowing for a smoother holiday experience.
