Lauren Zaabel has successfully completed the Iowa Bankers Association’s Introduction to Commercial Lending School (IBA-ICLS), an intensive three-day program designed to equip participants with foundational knowledge in commercial lending principles. This program included a mix of lectures, a comprehensive case study, and problem-loan exercises, allowing students to cultivate essential skills in credit analysis, risk assessment, and loan structuring.

Zaabel joined United Bank & Trust in April 2025, shortly before graduating summa cum laude from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business and Economics. Her academic accomplishments include dean’s list honors, and she was actively involved in the agricultural business club and several other campus organizations.

In her current role at United Bank & Trust, Zaabel supports the lending team by assisting with credit analysis and offering tailored loan solutions for business and agricultural clients. Her goal is to help these clients achieve their financial objectives effectively.

Professional Growth and Community Engagement

Lauren has demonstrated exceptional initiative since joining our team,” said Sam Upah, Senior Loan Officer at United Bank & Trust. “Completing the IBA Introduction to Commercial Lending School so early in her career highlights her strong commitment to professional growth. Her background in agriculture and dedication to our clients make her a tremendous asset to both our team and the community.”

A native of Kellogg, Zaabel maintains a close connection to agriculture through her involvement in her family’s farming operation and by managing her own beef herd. She is an active member of the Jasper County Cattlemen’s Association and a proud alumna of the Newton FFA Chapter. Additionally, Zaabel volunteers in local schools through Junior Achievement, where she shares her passion for agriculture and community engagement, further illustrating her commitment to both her profession and her community.

Zaabel’s efforts reflect a promising start to her career in commercial lending, and her ongoing dedication to professional development is likely to benefit the clients she serves and the broader agricultural community in Iowa.
