Costco has issued a recall for a popular frozen rice product due to concerns about potential glass contamination. The affected item, known as Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-style fried rice, was sold between December 2024 and February 2026. Members who purchased this product are being notified via email, as the warehouse takes precautionary measures to ensure customer safety.

According to a letter sent to Costco members on February 25, 2026, the recall affects specific lots of the fried rice product. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, in cooperation with Ajinomoto Foods North America, announced this voluntary recall after identifying the risk of glass fragments in the food. The affected packages bear “best by” dates ranging from November 8, 2025, to January 12, 2027.

Customers who have purchased the AJinomoto product are encouraged to return it to Costco for a full refund. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries associated with this recall.

Background on Ajinomoto’s Recent Recalls

This isn’t the first time Ajinomoto has faced issues with its products. The Oregon-based company previously recalled approximately 3.4 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice sold at Trader Joe’s locations. That recall, which included products packaged in 20-ounce plastic bags, was announced due to similar concerns. The affected Trader Joe’s products had best-by dates from September 8 to November 17, 2026, and were marked with the establishment number P-18356 within the USDA inspection label.

Costco’s proactive approach in handling this recall reflects its commitment to consumer safety. The company has communicated to its members that they can return any affected products without hassle. Customers are urged to remain vigilant and check their freezers for any items that may fall under this recall.

As food safety remains a top priority, the swift actions taken by Costco and Ajinomoto aim to minimize any risks associated with the consumption of these products.
