Marsh Risk Expands Nimbus Facility to Support Major Data Centers
Insurance broker Marsh Risk has significantly enhanced its Nimbus facility, expanding the capacity for large-scale data center construction insurance. The Nimbus facility now provides coverage limits of up to US$2.7 billion, which includes provisions for delay in start-up and business interruption. This expansion is aimed at supporting major data center construction projects across multiple regions, including the UK, US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
Launched in June 2025, Nimbus is the first insurance facility specifically designed for large-scale data center projects. This initiative underscores the growing importance of digital infrastructure development and aims to mitigate the specific risk exposures associated with such projects. By offering extensive financial protection, Nimbus enhances the security of investments for Marsh Risk’s clients and their capital providers.
Comprehensive Support for Digital Infrastructure
Nimbus is currently in use for various projects in the US, UK, and the Netherlands. The facility provides considerable capacity through a panel of A-rated insurers from Lloyd’s and other leading markets. In addition to this expansive financial backing, Marsh’s Global Digital Infrastructure team offers deep industry expertise in areas such as construction, cybersecurity, energy, and power. This expertise is crucial for clients navigating the complexities of the digital infrastructure landscape, empowering them to protect their capital and manage critical assets more effectively.
Mike Mathews, the global digital infrastructure leader at Marsh, noted the growing demand for more powerful data centers. He stated, “Demand for more powerful and efficient data centers is accelerating technological innovation, particularly around AI and machine learning, which will revolutionize the way we live and work and reshape economic landscapes over the next decade.” Mathews emphasized that Marsh is committed to assisting clients in developing sustainable business strategies while collaborating with communities.
Enabling Growth in the Age of Industry 4.0
Marsh’s initiatives extend beyond financial coverage. The firm is leveraging its global resources to address interconnected challenges such as capital management, construction, off-site power generation, environmental risk, and operational resilience. This holistic approach enables data center developers, operators, and owners to enhance their project delivery and resilience in an increasingly complex environment.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve with the advent of Industry 4.0, Marsh Risk’s enhancements to the Nimbus facility position it as a pivotal player in the support of data center projects worldwide. The expansion reflects not only a response to market demands but also an investment in the future of digital infrastructure, ensuring that clients can grow with confidence and efficiency amid rapid technological changes.
