Qorvo Shares Plunge Following Disappointing Q3 Earnings Report
Qorvo Inc (NASDAQ: QRVO) experienced a significant decline in its stock price during after-hours trading on Tuesday, following the release of its fiscal third-quarter earnings report. Despite exceeding expectations in revenue and earnings per share, the company’s outlook for the fourth quarter fell short of analyst projections, prompting investor concerns.
During the third quarter, Qorvo reported revenue of $993 million, surpassing estimates of $987.74 million. The adjusted earnings per share (EPS) also outperformed expectations, coming in at $2.17 compared to the anticipated $1.85. The gross margin was reported at 46.7% on a Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) basis and 49.1% on a non-GAAP basis. Operating income for the quarter totaled $247.6 million.
Bob Bruggeworth, president and CEO of Qorvo, noted that the company’s quarterly revenue was primarily driven by strong performance from its largest customer. He stated, “Each of our operating segments grew revenue year-over-year, with notable strength in automotive components, consumer and enterprise Wi-Fi, D&A, base station and power management.”
Despite the positive results for the third quarter, the outlook for Qorvo’s fiscal fourth quarter raised concerns among investors. The company anticipates revenue to range between $775 million and $825 million, significantly lower than analyst estimates of $904.59 million. Additionally, Qorvo expects adjusted earnings in the fourth quarter to be between $1.05 and $1.35 per share, compared to the projected $1.37 per share.
Bruggeworth explained the factors influencing the company’s outlook, stating, “Our March quarterly outlook reflects the seasonal decline at our largest customer, the ongoing strategic resizing of our Android business, and continued strength in HPA.”
As a result of the disappointing outlook, Qorvo shares fell by 7.80% in after-hours trading, reaching $76.35 at the time of publication, according to Benzinga Pro. The management team at Qorvo is scheduled to discuss the financial results and outlook further during a conference call with investors and analysts at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Investors will be closely monitoring the conference call to gain insights into Qorvo’s strategies moving forward and how the company plans to navigate its challenges in the upcoming quarters.
