Saks OFF 5th will close its East Hanover store in New Jersey on January 17, 2024, as part of a broader strategy to shut down nine locations across the United States. This decision comes directly from Saks Global, which confirmed the closures in a statement reported by USA Today.

The East Hanover store, located on Route 10, will cease operations without any special closing sales. This move is part of a significant restructuring effort that affects locations in Texas, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Connecticut. In New Jersey, customers will still have access to Saks OFF 5th stores in Bridgewater, Elizabeth, Paramus, and Shrewsbury.

Leadership Changes at Saks Global

In addition to the store closures, Saks Global has announced a leadership transition. Richard Baker has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Marc Metrick, who stepped down after nearly 30 years with the company. Baker, who previously served as executive chairman, will now oversee the company’s luxury retail operations while holding both positions.

Saks Global operates several well-known retail brands, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Last Call, and Horchow. This restructuring indicates a shift in focus as the company adjusts to changing market conditions.

The decision to close multiple locations reflects broader trends in the retail sector, where many businesses are reevaluating their physical presence in response to evolving consumer behavior. As shopping habits shift online, companies like Saks Global are confronted with the challenge of maintaining profitability while adapting to new market demands.

As the retail landscape continues to evolve, the operational changes at Saks OFF 5th signify a strategic pivot aimed at enhancing overall company performance. With a focus on core locations, Saks Global aims to streamline its operations while continuing to provide luxury shopping experiences to its customers across various markets.
