UMB Bank Increases Stake in CoStar Group by 51.6% in Q3
UMB Bank n.a. has significantly increased its investment in CoStar Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSGP) by acquiring an additional 76,720 shares during the third quarter of 2023. This acquisition raised UMB Bank’s total holdings to 225,305 shares, marking a substantial increase of 51.6%. As of the latest disclosure filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), these shares are valued at approximately $19 million, equating to about 0.05% of CoStar Group.
Additional institutional investors have also adjusted their positions in CoStar Group. Vanguard Group Inc. enhanced its stake by 0.6% in the second quarter, now owning nearly 68.8 million shares worth around $5.54 billion. Similarly, Bamco Inc. NY raised its holdings by 3.4%, bringing its total to approximately 19.7 million shares valued at $1.58 billion. State Street Corp and Geode Capital Management LLC also increased their stakes, owning 17.7 million shares and 12.4 million shares respectively.
As a result, institutional investors currently hold about 96.6% of CoStar Group’s stock, reflecting a strong interest in the technology firm.
Analysts Adjust Price Targets
Recent reports from analysts have prompted changes to price targets for CoStar Group shares. Citizens JMP lowered its price objective from $100 to $78, assigning a “market outperform” rating. BMO Capital Markets followed suit, reducing its target from $77 to $72 and maintaining a “market perform” rating.
The Goldman Sachs Group reiterated a “buy” rating with a price objective set at $84. Other firms, including Raymond James Financial and Jefferies Financial Group, have set price targets of $74 and upgraded CoStar Group to a “hold” rating, respectively. Overall, the stock holds a consensus rating of “Moderate Buy” and an average target price of $83.39, according to MarketBeat.

On Friday, CoStar Group’s shares opened at $61.50, reflecting a 0.7% decline. The company maintains a market capitalization of approximately $26.06 billion and has a P/E ratio of 1,230.00. The stock has fluctuated between a 52-week low of $57.01 and a high of $97.43.
In a strategic move, CoStar Group’s Board of Directors announced a stock buyback plan on January 7, 2024. This plan authorizes the company to repurchase up to $1.5 billion in outstanding shares, representing approximately 5.3% of its total shares.
