TML Nails & Spa Opens in Creston

In March, the Creston Chamber of Commerce celebrated the grand opening of TML Nails & Spa at 214 W. Montgomery St. The spa, launched by Jonny Tran, offers a diverse menu of services, including manicures, pedicures, and waxing. Operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, providing ample opportunity for residents to indulge in self-care.

Afton Sweet Creamery Rebrands Under New Ownership

In May, Afton’s local ice cream shop underwent a transformation as Mindy and David Jones took over ownership, rebranding it as Afton Sweet Creamery. The establishment, previously known as Sweet Afton Creamery, opened its doors under the new name on May 15. Although currently closed for the winter months, the creamery anticipates welcoming customers during the summer with operating hours from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. The shop is located at 302 N. Douglas St. in Afton.

Creston Automotive Closes After Six Decades

In a poignant development, Creston Automotive closed its doors on May 22, marking the end of an era after 61 years of service. Established in 1964 by the Burton Blazek and Harry Schlapia families, the dealership was a staple in the community. Owners Rick Benson and Les Elliott made the decision to close, citing retirement plans and career transitions. A Facebook post dated May 1 revealed their efforts to find a buyer to continue operations fell short, leading to the difficult conclusion. The dealership was the only Ford representative in town, leaving Fleetside Ford in Osceola as the closest alternative.

New Retail Ventures Enhance Uptown Creston

August saw the arrival of Wrenlee Rhae’s Boutique in Uptown Creston, a long-held dream for owner Shelby Bishop Fenton. Located at 104 N. Maple St., the boutique operates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, bringing a fresh retail option to the area.

In October, another new business joined the uptown scene with the opening of Esthetics by Willow Lee. Owner Willow Thompson, a familiar face in Creston from her previous partnerships at Vitality Aesthetics and Paisley Rose Boutique, offers a range of beauty services, including lash and brow treatments, facial waxing, spray tans, and skincare. Appointments are required for services at her location, 230 N. Pine St.

Walmart Reopens After Major Renovations

In November, the local Walmart celebrated its grand reopening following extensive renovations that began nearly six months prior. This store was one of ten in Iowa selected for significant upgrades. Enhancements included improvements to the store layout, restroom facilities, service areas, and refrigeration systems, as well as updates to lighting and front-end registers. While the grand reopening was well-received, the refinished parking lot will not be completed until the spring of 2026, with substantial re-paving scheduled for early next year.
