Chappell Roan Visits Melbourne Dive Bar Ahead of Festival Tour

On the evening of February 11, 2025, Australian fans at Melbourne’s renowned Cherry Bar enjoyed an unexpected visit from American pop sensation Chappell Roan. The artist, currently headlining the Laneway Festival tour, took some time to unwind with her crew, sipping on a couple of mocktails at the iconic dive bar.

Roan’s visit followed a successful performance at Sydney’s Centennial Park on February 8, where her show sold out, showcasing her growing popularity. The Laneway Festival continues with its next stop in Melbourne at Flemington Park on February 13.

During her time at Cherry Bar, the atmosphere was relaxed, with approximately 17 patrons present. James Young, the venue’s owner and DJ for the night, noted the artist’s modest demeanor. He shared, “Didn’t take any pictures of her, cos that would be uncool, but can report that she drank a couple of mocktails and was very modest, polite and lovely.” Young highlighted that Roan chose to stand at the main bar rather than retreating to a VIP area, reflecting her down-to-earth personality.

Cherry Bar, a staple in Melbourne’s music scene, is famed for its vibrant atmosphere and rich history. Established in 1999 at AC/DC Lane, it has attracted a plethora of music legends over the years, including Noel Gallagher and members of Metallica. In March 2019, the venue relocated to its current address at 68 Little Collins Street, continuing to be a beloved spot for both locals and tourists.

Young expressed gratitude towards Roan’s crew for their support and acknowledged the Laneway Festival for helping revive the struggling hospitality scene in Melbourne, stating, “The world needs people on the streets.” The festival has a reputation for discovering talent before they reach mainstream success, having previously showcased artists like Billie Eilish and Tame Impala.

Roan’s single, “Good Luck, Babe!,” has made waves, securing the No. 1 spot on triple j’s Hottest 100 in 2025 with the highest number of votes in the countdown’s history. This accomplishment solidifies her status as one of the leading artists in Australia at present.

Following the Melbourne performance, the Laneway Festival will travel to Adelaide Showgrounds on February 14, and conclude in Perth at Arena Joondalup on February 15. This year marks the festival’s 21st anniversary, co-founded by Danny Rogers and Jerome Borazio, featuring a diverse lineup that includes Alex G, PinkPantheress, Wolf Alice, Role Model, and Wet Leg.
