Community Events Shine in Nanticoke Area This January
The Nanticoke area is buzzing with activity this January, offering residents and visitors a variety of engaging events. From a book sale benefiting the local library to a country music concert, the community is set to come together for fun and fellowship throughout the month.
Upcoming Events for Community Engagement
The **Friends of the Mill Memorial Library** will host a book sale on **January 3, 2026**, from **10 a.m. to 1 p.m.** Hardcovers and softcovers will be available for **$2 each**, while children’s and teen books will be offered at just **50 cents**. Proceeds from the sale will directly support the library’s ongoing programs and initiatives.
On **January 7, 2026**, country music fans can enjoy a concert by **Bradley Banning** at the **Father Nash Parish Center**, located next to **St. Faustina Kowalska Parish** at **520 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke**. The concert begins at **7 p.m.**, following a **6 p.m. Mass** in the church. Banning, a Texas-based artist, is known for his focus on God-centered and family-friendly themes in his music. Admission is free, though a free will offering will be accepted. Regular Community Activities
Community members looking for regular entertainment can participate in the **West Side Playground’s** bi-monthly bingo nights, held every first and third Tuesday of the month. Additionally, the **American Legion Post 350** invites the public to its monthly bingo night on the second Wednesday of each month. Doors open at **6 p.m.**, and games commence at **7 p.m.** The kitchen serves food from **6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.**, providing an opportunity for attendees to enjoy a meal while engaging in friendly competition.
Food assistance is also available for those in need. The **Newport Township Community Organization**, in partnership with the **Weinberg Regional Food Bank**, conducts a monthly food distribution. This outdoor, drive-through event takes place from **11 a.m. to noon** on the second Saturday of each month at the municipal garage adjacent to the municipal building on **Kirmar Parkway**. When the garage is unavailable, distribution shifts to the **Wanamie Recreation Park parking lot**. Recipients must pre-register at least five days prior to the event by calling **570-592-7876**.
