Michael Bolton’s daughters have provided an encouraging update about their father’s health as he bravely continues to battle glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The 72-year-old singer, known for his powerful voice and two Grammy Awards, announced his diagnosis in December 2023 following an emergency surgery that successfully removed the tumor.

In January 2024, Bolton underwent a second surgery due to an infection and completed both radiation and chemotherapy treatments by October 2024. He now receives MRI scans every two months to monitor for any signs of tumor recurrence, which is common with glioblastoma.

Family Support and Positive Outlook

During a recent interview with AARP, his daughters—Isa, Holly, and Taryn—shared their insights into his ongoing health journey. Isa expressed their collective pride, stating, “We’re proud and happy to update anyone who has been interested in following [our Dad’s] journey that he is in very good spirits and very good health.”

She noted that while there are challenging days, Bolton has shown strength in both mobility and cognition. “In general, he’s very strong,” she added. The family dynamic has shifted significantly, with the daughters taking on caregiving roles. Taryn and her daughters live full-time with Bolton in his home in Westport, Connecticut, while Isa and Holly provide support as needed, with Isa visiting three times a week and Holly traveling from California monthly.

In an email to AARP, Bolton expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the importance of family time. “This past year has tested me in ways I never imagined,” he said. “It’s also made me more aware of the moments that fill life with meaning: having meals with my family, hearing my grandkids laugh, stepping outside on a beautiful day and just taking it in.”

Challenges and a Changing Relationship

The family has faced emotional hurdles throughout this journey. Isa recalled that Bolton experienced a noticeable personality change following his surgery, which can be a common side effect. “I’m kind of scared of G-Pa,” her youngest son once remarked, highlighting the impact of the changes on young family members. However, Isa reassured that Bolton’s “funny” personality returned after he engaged in yoga and physical therapy as part of his recovery.

Isa reflected on the evolving relationship dynamics as she became more involved in her father’s care. “The relationship dynamic does shift so profoundly,” she noted. “You have an opportunity to work through some things that were challenging and to recognize that you can redefine the relationship in a new way.”

Bolton also expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support he has received from fans worldwide. “Thank you, from the bottom of my heart,” he wrote in his correspondence. “Your messages, prayers, kindness … they’ve reached me in moments when I needed them most. It reminds me that we’re all connected, and none of us walk through life’s challenges alone.”

As Bolton continues to navigate his health challenges, the unwavering support from his daughters and the community serves as a beacon of hope during this difficult time.
