Teddi Mellencamp Opens Up About ‘The Masked Singer’ and Health Journey
Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave recently revealed her identity as Calla Lily on the popular competition show, “The Masked Singer,” and shared insights into her health journey and personal relationships. The reveal, which aired on February 4, 2026, marked not only a significant moment in her career but also a heartfelt family experience.
Mellencamp spoke with entertainment reporter Courtney Tezeno about the challenges of keeping her identity a secret. She noted that her children quickly recognized her voice while she performed. “I knew the second that my kids heard my voice singing, that they would know it was me,” she explained. The special moment was shared with her children and her father, musician John Mellencamp, who was in town and joined the family to watch the performance.
The experience on “The Masked Singer” provided Mellencamp with unexpected confidence. “That mask is a part of your protection,” she said, emphasizing the contrast between performing in a costume and being unmasked. She admitted that memorizing lyrics proved to be more difficult than she anticipated, stating, “All of a sudden, when you have to, you’re like, ‘Hold on, what comes next?’”
Health Challenges and Personal Growth
Beyond her singing career, Mellencamp has faced significant health challenges, including treatment for skin cancer and surgeries on her brain. She candidly discussed how her experiences led her to realize she was dealing with PTSD, not merely exhaustion. “It had gotten to the point where I didn’t want to get up at all,” she revealed. While she never felt suicidal, she acknowledged feelings of loneliness that prompted her to seek help.
Now, Mellencamp is learning the importance of asking for support—something she previously resisted. “I used to take pride in the fact that I didn’t need anybody,” she admitted. “I really can’t now and it’s okay to not be okay.” This newfound openness is a significant shift for her, illustrating her growth through adversity.
A key figure in Mellencamp’s support system has been her long-time friend, Kyle Richards. Mellencamp credits Richards with encouraging her to seek medical attention for a skin tag that led to early treatment for melanoma. She recounted a particularly harrowing moment when Richards rushed her to the emergency room after she suddenly lost vision in one eye. “At a time that I was unable to be my own advocate, Kyle was my advocate,” she said. “She stayed with me; I was never allowed to be alone.”
Reflections on Reality TV and Personal Identity
Reflecting on her time on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” Mellencamp expressed a desire to approach things differently if she had the chance. “I wanted to be perceived as perfect,” she noted, adding that she now wishes she could have shown her true self—flaws and all. “The good, the bad and the ugly,” she emphasized.
Mellencamp shared a lighthearted anecdote from her childhood about being grounded by her father in front of celebrities Madonna and Sean Penn. “I don’t think I’ve been late since,” she joked, recalling how she showed up three hours past curfew for dinner.
As she navigates this new chapter in her life, Mellencamp’s journey serves as a reminder of the importance of vulnerability, support from loved ones, and the courage to share one’s true self with the world. The experience on “The Masked Singer” not only reignited her passion for performance but also highlighted the resilience she has developed through her personal struggles.
