Toni Collette Discusses Storylines for Potential Wayward Season 2
Toni Collette has expressed her enthusiasm for a possible second season of the hit Netflix series Wayward. During an interview with ScreenRant while promoting her latest film, Goodbye June, Collette revealed that she is open to returning to the role of Evelyn Wade and has even discussed potential storylines with the show’s creator, Mae Martin.
The actress acknowledged that she initially believed prospects for another season were slim. Yet, following conversations with Martin about the series, she remains optimistic. “I thought it had been buried, but maybe there is some hope,” Collette said. She emphasized her willingness to reprise her role if the opportunity arises, stating, “I would totally do it.”
About Wayward and Collette’s Role
Set in the eerie town of Tall Pines in Vermont, Wayward revolves around a mysterious institution known as Tall Pines Academy. This school, which caters to troubled teens, operates more like a cult than a conventional educational facility. The storyline follows a new police officer, Alex, who moves to town with his pregnant wife, Laura. As he settles in, Alex uncovers unsettling truths about Laura’s past and the academy itself.
Collette portrays Evelyn Wade, the founder and head teacher of Tall Pines Academy. Initially depicted as charming and warm, her character reveals a darker side that is calculated and ruthless when it comes to preserving her institution’s reputation. Martin has previously noted that they created the role specifically for Collette, highlighting her unique ability to blend humor with menace.
In her interview, Collette reflected on the enjoyable experience of working on Wayward. “We had the best time. Are you kidding? And I love Mae,” she said. The actress’s enthusiasm for the project and her character indicates a strong potential for future developments in the series.
As fans await official announcements regarding a second season, Collette’s comments have reignited interest in the show. With its gripping narrative and complex characters, Wayward has captured the attention of viewers, making the prospect of new storylines an exciting possibility.
