Ubisoft Stock Plummets 30% Following Major Reorganization Announcement
Ubisoft’s stock price experienced a significant decline this week, plummeting by over 30% following an announcement regarding a major reorganization. The company revealed plans to cancel six game projects, including the much-anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and to close two of its studios. This announcement, made on the morning of January 21, 2025, initially led to only a minor dip in stock price. However, by January 22, the full impact was felt, with the stock dropping from a closing price of $1.30 per share to $0.92 as trading opened.
The announcement follows a turbulent period for Ubisoft, which has struggled to maintain a consistent release schedule over the past year. While the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows in 2025 garnered attention, the company has largely remained quiet on the gaming front, focusing instead on a partnership with Tencent to create a subsidiary and developing several media projects. These include an upcoming Rider’s Republic movie and a Netflix series based on Assassin’s Creed.
In a surprising move, Ubisoft recently paused share trading, which raised concerns among investors. It later clarified that the trading halt was due to a restatement of its financial results for 2024-25. As the company navigates these challenges, the sentiment around Ubisoft remains cautious.
Investors are closely monitoring the situation as the company’s future direction becomes clearer. The cancellation of established projects and studio closures signal a substantial shift in Ubisoft’s approach to game development. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, Ubisoft must adapt to maintain its competitive edge.
Moving forward, updates on Ubisoft’s strategy and its impact on stock performance will be critical for stakeholders. For those invested in the gaming market, the coming weeks may reveal whether this reorganization will ultimately benefit the company or further jeopardize its standing within the industry.
