As colder-than-normal temperatures are expected in the coming days, the Villages Community Development District, in collaboration with Jacobs, is implementing a series of measures to ensure the safety of staff and residents. These proactive steps aim to maintain comfort and support within the community during extreme weather conditions.

Weather Monitoring and Outdoor Activities

The Community Development District is closely monitoring local weather forecasts. When temperatures fall to 35°F (approximately 1.7°C) or lower, outdoor recreational activities may be canceled or postponed. Staff will inform participants of any changes in event schedules, ensuring that they can resume activities safely once conditions improve.

Community Watch and Patrol Adjustments

To protect staff from prolonged exposure to cold weather, doors at gatehouses may remain closed during extreme temperatures. Despite this, essential services will continue without interruption. Outdoor patrols will be minimized when temperatures reach unsafe levels, particularly below 35°F or during extreme heat conditions, such as a heat index of 104°F (approximately 40°C). Patrols will be conducted primarily from vehicles, allowing for visual checks of the neighborhoods while prioritizing safety.

In addition, staff involvement in early morning golf operations may be reduced or delayed to prevent hazardous working conditions. Adjustments to golf schedules will be made to ensure that staff can report at safer times, allowing the continuation of golf services in a secure manner.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions at home and check on their neighbors during this period of extreme weather. Staying informed is crucial; residents should monitor updates from their local County Emergency Management office and the National Weather Service for the latest information.

These measures reflect a commitment to community welfare and safety, ensuring that residents of the Villages remain secure and comfortable even in the face of challenging weather conditions.
