Carol Stent, Beloved Wife and Animal Advocate, Passes Away

Carol A. Stent, a cherished figure in her community and a passionate advocate for animals, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, David Y. Nakahara. Carol’s life was marked by her vibrant personality, deep compassion, and unwavering support for her loved ones and the creatures she adored.

Early Life and Education

Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis, Carol was the eldest of seven siblings, including three brothers and three sisters. After graduating from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation in 1957, she formed lifelong friendships with her classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who inspired her throughout her education.

Her adventurous spirit led her to San Francisco, California, where she and four classmates established their careers and personal lives. It was in this vibrant city that Carol’s striking beauty and zest for life captured the attention of many.

A Life of Love and Advocacy

Carol’s journey took her to Los Angeles, California, where she met Raymond Michael Stent, a young medical intern from England. They married at the Wayfarers Chapel following Raymond’s successful residency at U.C.L.A. and subsequent board certification in neurology. Their marriage, while filled with love, ended in divorce during the 1980s.

In 1989, Carol found love again with David Nakahara, an attorney in Torrance, California. They tied the knot in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 20 of that year. Together, they shared a life dedicated to each other and their love for animals, raising a total of seventeen pets over the years.

Carol was well-known for her immense compassion, particularly in her role as a caregiver. She provided invaluable support to David as he cared for his aging parents, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to family even while recovering from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed.

Throughout her life, Carol embodied a vibrant spirit and a deep love for all living beings. Her legacy is marked by her ability to light up the lives of those around her with her wit, determination, and kindness. She is survived by her husband, David, and her sisters: Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina.

In her passing, Carol A. Stent leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. As her family reflects on her life, they will remember her as a beacon of light and a source of inspiration.
