SpaceX Prepares for Overnight Launch of 28 Starlink Satellites
SpaceX is set to conduct an overnight launch from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on July 28, 2024, aiming to enhance its Starlink satellite constellation. The upcoming flight, known as the Starlink 10-52 mission, will deploy an additional 28 V2 Mini satellites into low Earth orbit, increasing the total number of satellites in the network to approximately 8,600. This initiative is part of SpaceX’s ongoing efforts to expand global internet coverage via its satellite network.
The launch is scheduled for 2:42 a.m. EDT (0642 UTC) from Space Launch Complex 40. According to renowned astronomer and orbital tracker Jonathan McDowell, this mission marks SpaceX’s 130th Falcon 9 launch of the year. The company has undertaken significant operations to support its satellite constellation, with 91 of the more than 125 Falcon 9 missions in 2025 dedicated to this purpose.
Favorable Weather Conditions Expected
The 45th Weather Squadron has provided a promising forecast for the launch window, predicting a 95 percent chance of favorable weather conditions. Meteorologists indicate that there is a minimal risk of interference from cumulus clouds, which could affect the launch trajectory. Nonetheless, the weather in the planned landing zone for the Falcon 9 first stage booster, designated B1095, is rated as having a “moderate” risk on a low-moderate-high scale.
This launch will be the third flight for booster B1095, which has previously supported two Starlink missions earlier this year. Following liftoff, SpaceX plans to recover the booster using its autonomous drone ship, Just Read the Instructions. The recovery is expected to occur approximately 8.5 minutes after launch. If successful, this will mark the 138th recovery operation for this vessel and the 519th overall booster landing for SpaceX.
