Italian Golfer Andrea Pavan Injured in Elevator Shaft Fall
Andrea Pavan, the Italian golfer, sustained serious injuries after falling down an elevator shaft in South Africa. The incident occurred when Pavan, unaware that the elevator car was not present, stepped into the shaft. Reports indicate that he fell three stories and was subsequently taken to a hospital for emergency surgery on the evening of March 6, 2024.
Pavan was in South Africa to compete in the South African Open, which commenced on March 7. According to a report from Golf Channel, Pavan suffered injuries to his back and shoulder. The European Tour confirmed that he had withdrawn from the tournament due to his injuries, citing medical confidentiality.

Higgins, his former coach at Texas A&M, shared that he had not spoken directly with Pavan but received updates on his condition from mutual contacts. “By all accounts, he’s in good spirits, thankful to be alive and FaceTiming with his kids,” Higgins stated.
Before the accident, Pavan had been staying near Cape Town and was preparing for the tournament. His fall has raised significant concern within the golfing community, particularly among his friends on the European Tour and former teammates who have rallied around him during this challenging time.
