Vestmark Advisory Solutions Inc. has acquired a new interest in Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE), purchasing 19,800 shares during the third quarter, as detailed in its recent Form 13F filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This investment is valued at approximately $504,000, reflecting growing institutional interest in the biopharmaceutical company.

Other institutional investors and hedge funds have also modified their stakes in Pfizer recently. For instance, Grey Fox Wealth Advisors LLC invested $29,000 in Pfizer shares during the third quarter, while Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Darwin Wealth Management LLC made similar investments of around $30,000 and $32,000, respectively, in the previous quarter. Additionally, True Wealth Design LLC significantly increased its stake by 302.5% in the third quarter, now holding 1,296 shares valued at approximately $33,000 after acquiring 974 additional shares.

As of now, institutional investors own 68.36% of Pfizer’s stock, indicating a substantial level of confidence from these entities.

Recent Developments Impacting Pfizer

Several key developments have influenced Pfizer’s stock performance recently. The company initiated a Phase 2 study for an mRNA influenza vaccine, advancing its mRNA platform into a significant seasonal market. A successful outcome could lead to multi-year revenue growth and increased profit margins. Furthermore, Pfizer updated a Phase 1 study for a new injectable obesity treatment, targeting a vast market that could enhance revenue diversification.

On the regulatory front, the FDA granted full approval for Pfizer’s BRAFTOVI regimen as the first-line treatment for BRAF V600E-mutant metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). This approval not only expands the drug’s label but also reduces regulatory risks, supporting the company’s near-term oncology sales.

Investor sentiment has also been positively influenced by Pfizer’s attractive dividend, which some sources cite as yielding over 6%. Coverage highlighting this dividend has drawn interest from income-focused investors.

However, the sentiment is not entirely positive. Analysts at Zacks recently upgraded Pfizer from “strong sell” to “hold,” which indicates a more neutral outlook but lacks a strong buy recommendation. Although Pfizer’s latest quarterly results surpassed earnings per share (EPS) and revenue expectations, showing resilience despite a slight year-over-year revenue decline, concerns about long-term structural issues remain.

Analyst Ratings and Future Outlook

In a contrasting report, RBC Capital initiated coverage of Pfizer with an “Underperform” rating and set a target price of $25. The firm cautioned about a projected $15 billion–$20 billion decline in revenue through 2030, introducing a bearish long-term revenue outlook that could limit potential upside for investors.

Pfizer’s stock recently traded up by 1.9%. In its latest earnings release on February 3, the company reported an EPS of $0.66, exceeding the consensus estimate of $0.57. Revenue for the quarter reached $17.56 billion, surpassing expectations of $16.93 billion. Although this represented a 1.2% decline year-over-year, Pfizer’s return on equity stood at 20.25%, with a net margin of 12.42%.

Looking ahead, analysts project that Pfizer will post an EPS of $2.95 for the current year. In addition, the company announced a quarterly dividend of $0.43, which will be distributed on March 6 to shareholders of record as of January 23. This gives a total annualized dividend of $1.72 and a yield of 6.2%.

Investment analysts remain divided on the stock, with one rating it as a Strong Buy, four issuing Buy ratings, fourteen rating it as Hold, and three recommending Sell. According to data from MarketBeat, Pfizer holds an average rating of “Hold” with an average target price of $27.70.
