Wilkerson Caps College Career with Memorable 3-Pointer

BOWIE, Md. — In a poignant farewell to her college basketball career, Hannah Wilkerson concluded her final game with a memorable 3-pointer, helping her team secure a victory against Lincoln University on February 21, 2023. This moment capped a journey that began at North Rowan and saw her evolve into a key player at Bowie State University, contributing to a strong season for the Bulldogs.

Wilkerson’s path to Bowie State was marked by notable achievements and challenges. She initially made her mark at Columbia International University, an NAIA program, where as a freshman, she scored 522 points. Following a coaching change, she transferred to Clarion University in Pennsylvania, where she played for two seasons. During her tenure at Clarion, she scored a combined 445 points, helping to revitalize a struggling program.

Record-Setting Career and Transition

By the time she arrived at Bowie State, Wilkerson had accumulated 967 college points. In December, she celebrated the milestone of scoring her 1,000th point as a Bulldog. Her decision to transfer to Bowie State was influenced by the promising job opportunities in the Washington D.C. area, aligning with her aspirations post-graduation.

Wilkerson’s senior season took an unexpected turn on February 5 when she suffered an MCL tear during a game against Elizabeth City State. Although her injury sidelined her for the remainder of the season, her determination shone through as she returned to the court for Senior Night, surrounded by family and friends. She scored 94 points during her final season, showcasing her resilience and dedication to the sport.

A Legacy of Achievement

Despite missing the CIAA Tournament in Baltimore, Wilkerson’s impact at Bowie State and her earlier institutions will not be forgotten. Over her high school career at North Rowan, she amassed 1,589 points, even with disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Her journey reflects not only her talent on the court but also her commitment to personal and professional growth.
