Los Gatos Wildcats Surge to CCS Title Game with 59-43 Win
UPDATE: The Los Gatos Wildcats boys basketball team is back in the CCS Division I championship after a decisive 59-43 victory over the defending champions, Carlmont Scots, on February 26, 2026. This thrilling win marks their return to the title game after a one-year absence, igniting excitement among fans and players alike.
The Wildcats (21-5), who secured the No. 2 seed for the fourth consecutive season, showcased their determination and skill by overcoming last year’s quarterfinal upset against Homestead. As the game unfolded, Los Gatos pulled away from Carlmont in the fourth quarter, allowing Coach Nick Ward to finally breathe easy amidst the electrifying atmosphere at Los Gatos High School.
“You start feeling, you start believing, ‘Hey, we can do this,’” Ward remarked, highlighting the unexpected success of a team that started two freshmen and three seniors. “Holy heck, that’s incredible.” The Wildcats’ journey to the championship has been fueled by the contributions of young players and seasoned teammates alike, all eager to make their mark.
The fourth quarter saw a surge in Los Gatos’ performance, with crucial plays from Ryan Jamieson, who delivered his best game of the season, and Dionysis Maroudas, who consistently scored throughout the match. This energetic performance was met with roaring support from a near-capacity crowd, creating an unmatchable home-court advantage.
Carlmont Coach Suhail Mohammadi acknowledged the intensity of the game, emphasizing the valuable experience gained from competing in such a charged atmosphere. Despite the disappointment of the loss, he noted the importance of these high-pressure moments for his players’ development.
As the clock wound down, it became clear that Los Gatos had secured their spot in the championship game scheduled for Saturday. “Closing teams out was tough against better opponents, but we did it tonight,” Ward stated. The Wildcats’ ability to maintain their lead, bolstered by unwavering crowd support, was instrumental in their success.
With their sights set on the CCS Division I title, the Wildcats are poised to capitalize on their momentum. Fans and players alike are buzzing with anticipation, ready to witness what promises to be an exhilarating showdown. This championship opportunity not only embodies a triumphant return for Los Gatos but also symbolizes the hard work and resilience of a team that has defied expectations.
As the Wildcats prepare for the final game, all eyes will be on them to see if they can clinch the title and write a new chapter in their storied history. This is a moment that Los Gatos basketball fans will not want to miss.
