Urgent: 6 Hospitalized After Serious Car Crash in Mission District
URGENT UPDATE: Six individuals have been hospitalized following a severe car crash in the Mission District of San Francisco this afternoon. Two pedestrians are reported to have life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 22nd Street and South Van Ness Avenue, according to local authorities.
The incident unfolded around 2:30 PM when a driver collided with the two pedestrians and subsequently hit another oncoming vehicle. Fire Department Assistant Chief Bill Storti confirmed that all six victims were transported to nearby hospitals. The two pedestrians were rushed to San Francisco General Hospital, while four occupants from the vehicles sustained minor injuries.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with shoes and clothing scattered across the street. One witness, Amerie Wheeler, recounted the alarming sounds of screeching brakes followed by a “big crash.” She immediately rushed outside after hearing someone screaming for help and calling 911. “One of the pedestrians was conscious and kept asking about the other,” Wheeler reported, highlighting the dramatic human impact of the incident.
Emergency responders cordoned off the area as they worked to assist the victims, while one individual from the vehicle that struck the pedestrians was seen being secured in a neck brace. The scene was marked by a sense of urgency as both police and fire crews managed the aftermath of this tragic event.
