Gary Seacrest passed away in October 2023 after a battle with prostate cancer. Earlier this year, Ryan discussed his father’s health struggles, noting that Gary had been diagnosed with prostate cancer years prior. “My dad is about 80 years old, and I have a very close relationship with my father,” Ryan explained in July 2023. Although Gary initially began treatment, his condition worsened over time. Ryan shared that he received a call while filming “American Idol,” alerting him that his father was in intensive care.

Upon arriving in Atlanta to be with his father, Ryan recognized the severity of Gary’s condition. He described conversations about emergency surgery as life-or-death discussions. “I’ve never seen my strong, very smart father with the look on his face that he had,” Ryan said. Despite the challenges, Gary managed to recover from pneumonia and continued his cancer treatment, although his battle was ongoing.
